One of the most well known art pieces of all time is actually a HUGE work on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel Michelangelo was mostly known for his sculpture work, but he was asked by Pope Julius II to create the masterwork paintings inside of this Vatican Chapel.
Michelangelo worked from 1508 to 1512 to complete his work. The entire piece contained many stories from the Bible, including The Creation, Noah and the Flood, The Creation of Adam, and The Fall of Adam and Eve. There were also various portraits of different Prophets. In order to create his work, Michelangelo had to have huge scaffolding platforms put up in the Chapel so that he could reach the ceiling.
From there, he would have to lay on his back and paint straight up above him!
